Thefts, Vandalism Hit Construction Sites

Some thieves have been making off with thousands of dollars worth of construction materials and equipment. Police are investigating several recent incidents of theft and vandalism, mostly in South Tyler.

The thieves are stealing items like decking and siding materials, roofing felt, plywood, and high-end items, like $2,000 saws and $900 nail guns. Most of the crime is happening around new-home building sites in Hollytree and along the Grande Extension project.

One local contractor is fed up with having to fork out thousands of dollars in cash to replace stolen supplies.

"It's frustrating to come to work in the morning to find stuff that you thought was locked up and was secured, somebody cut the lock and the chain and gone away with it," Keith Lott, a masonry contractor, said.

If you spot anyone loading up trucks or trailers at a site after normal construction hours, call the police.
