Franklin Co. Sheriff: Attack on 75-year-old 'particularly brutal'

MOUNT VERNON, TX (KLTV) -

The Franklin County Sheriff's Office is investigating the murder of an East Texas man.

Sheriff Ricky Jones said Friday that the department is investigating the death of 75-year-old Kenneth Rex Raley at his home in the 900 block of Miller Street in Mount Vernon. He was discovered about 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the residence.

According to a preliminary autopsy report released by the Southwest Institute of Forensic Sciences, the cause of death was blunt force trauma.

“This was a particularly brutal attack,” says Jones. “He sustained terrific trauma and was left to die in his own home.”

Authorities would not confirm how Raley was found or in what condition.

Mount Vernon Police, the Franklin County Sheriff's Office and Texas Rangers are investigating. They are requesting help from anyone who may have knowledge of the attack or anyone who may have been the area of the Raley home and seen anyone or a suspicious vehicle in the area, especially information between September 1 and 3, 2014.

To provide information on the crime, contact the department at 903-537-4539 or Northeast Texas Area Crime Stoppers at 903-577-TIPS. Tipsters stay anonymous and are eligible for up to a $1000 reward.
