Texas border crosser had cocaine strapped to legs

Posted: Updated:

EL PASO, Texas (AP) - A woman from Mexico faces cocaine smuggling charges after an officer at a Texas border crossing noticed one of her legs appeared larger than the other.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials on Tuesday announced the seizure of more than 7 pounds of cocaine in three bricks attached to the woman's thighs. The cocaine has a street value of about $240,000.

Officers at the Paso Del Norte crossing in El Paso on Sunday afternoon became suspicious when the pedestrian seemed nervous when questioned. An officer also noticed that one of the woman's legs appeared bigger than the other. The woman during a secondary examination told officers that she had packages of drugs strapped to her legs.

Officers seized the cocaine and turned the woman over to federal authorities.
