Man accused of Walmart hatchet attack ruled legally insane

HARRISON COUNTY (KLTV) - A man arrested for entering an East Texas Walmart an allegedly assaulting three people with a hatchet has been ruled legally insane.

According to a report obtained from the Harrison County Clerk's office, Christopher Hamilton, 27, entered a Marshall Walmart in December 2013 and swung a hatchet at three people. Hamilton recently underwent a sanity evaluation, and was found to be legally insane at the time of the attacks.The psychologist who examined Hamilton said the man didn't know his conduct was wrong, adding that he suffers from schizophrenia.

The same psychologist reported in July that Hamilton was incompetent to stand trial.

Hamilton, of Crawford, AR, was indicted by a Harrison County grand jury in March on three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
