LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) -

A man's attempt to steal a car comes to an abrupt end when he runs into a police car and it was caught on tape. It happened at Louis Morgan Drugs in the 1900 block of South High Street in Longview just after noon. A woman went into the store and left her car running since she had two passengers sitting in her car.

That's when a man who had been standing in the parking lot got into the driver's seat and drove off. Gloria Jackson never imagined her car would ram a police car during the lunch hour, but that's exactly what happened. She walked into Louis Morgan Drugs.

Louise Haley was sitting in the passenger's seat when a man walked up and asked her where Highway 80 was.

“The next thing I know he jumps in the car getting ready to grab the gear shift, and I'm fighting him to keep him from getting the car and he turned around and hit me in the face,” Haley said.

Willie Brown was in the back seat, and they were both fighting the man behind the wheel who drove around the back of the drug store.

“The man in the back seat was choking him. She was pulling on the steering wheel,” Jackson explained.

The car slammed into a retaining wall and went around the back of the building.

“I said oh somebody just got hit. I looked around the corner and it was my car. I said I know my car hadn't rolled that far,” Jackson said.

Louise Haley was still doing half of the steering.

“I hit the police car to stop him from taking the car off,” Haley added.

But it still wasn't over.

“He jumped on me to try to get out the window but I was holding him back to keep him from jumping out the window,” Louise revealed.

Longview police officer Ricky Mitchell was in the drive-through waiting his turn when he was hit. He jumped out of the car and dragged the would-be car-jacker out of the car and onto the ground.

Gloria, Louise and Willie were all glad the bad guy decided to go around the back instead of leaving the front way onto high street.

Louise Haley was treated at the scene suffering from a black eye. Officer Ricky Mitchell was treated and released. This is the third time Mitchell was hit by a vehicle while on duty. The suspect was arrested for a Potter County warrant and robbery.
