East Texas Food Bank: Go orange for hunger awareness

TYLER, TX (KLTV) - The East Texas Food Bank is asking people to wear orange on Thursday in an effort to raise awareness of the over 456,000 East Texans who struggle with hunger. September is national Hunger Action Month.

“One in four children and one in five adults are food insecure in East Texas today,” said Dennis Cullinane, CEO of the East Texas Food Bank. “This means they don't know where their next meal is coming from. It's important to show that hunger exists right here at home and get everyone involved in finding a local solution.”

In addition to wearing orange, participants are asked to “donate” their social media profiles by turning them orange to show hunger awareness.

“There is more than enough food to feed every man, woman and child in this country, yet one in six Americans are facing hunger,” said Bob Aiken, CEO of Feeding America. “By raising awareness and working together, we can solve hunger.”
