SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -
Smith County sheriff's deputies are investigating an armed robbery that happened Monday afternoon at the Super Food Mart in the 1200 block of Northeast Loop 323 in Smith County.
Sheriff's department spokesperson Krista Caulkins says they received a call about the robbery around 1:34 p.m, on Monday. The clerk told authorities that she had just been robbed at knifepoint by an Hispanic male. The clerk said the man entered the store with a knife, speaking only Spanish. The suspect is described as being tall with a large build. He was wearing a tan hat, a black, short-sleeved shirt and blue jeans.
The man fled the scene with an unidentified amount of money in a late model gold Toyota four-door sedan. The vehicle had temporary paper tags, numbered 95V3138. The vehicle is registered to an address in the city of Tyler.
Detectives and crime scene specialists are processing the scene and the investigation is ongoing.
This is the second armed robbery Smith County convenience store in the last 36 hours. A store in the 11800 block of Highway 64 West was robbed around 3 a.m. on Sunday.
