7 from 7: Friday night lights and a holiday weekend!

Good afternoon, and happy Friday to you! We hope you're ready to cheer for your favorite team and to have a great Labor Day with your friends and family.

Here are some stories for you to peruse as you wind up your week:

1. It's high school football time again, and we couldn't be more excited. Not only because we love East Texas football, but because we have made a GREAT new app for your phone to help you keep up with scores, submit pictures, get the latest gridiron news and football forecast, and even find tailgating recipes. Best news of all? It's free. You can download it for iPhone (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/kltv-and-ktre-red-zone/id904739173?mt=8) or Android (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.raycom.droid.kltvredzone). Tell your friends!

2. This is really amazing. Makes you wonder why no one thought of this before: A Shreveport prosthetist is turning artificial limbs into affordable and functional art, and his work has gone viral. Such a creative idea!

3. An East Texas mother is seeking information as the five year anniversary of her daughter's disappearance approaches.Heather Cannon, of Athens, has been missing since Aug. 27, 2009. She was age 15 at the time of her disappearance. Her mother, Melissa Bracey Hardwick, operates the Facebook page "Please help find heather Danielle Cannon!!!" where more images of Cannon are posted.

4. A Tyler man accused of killing his ex-wife and kidnapping their son was denied a request for a new judge in his upcoming trial Friday. Judge Mary Murphy said she should deny James Calvert's request to recuse District Court Judge Jack Skeen Jr. based on timeliness, but will hear his argument and make a final decision at the conclusion of the hearing. Calvert, 34, is charged with capital murder for shooting and killing his ex-wife, Jelena Sriraman in October 2012.

5. A Longview man accused of dousing his girlfriend with lighter fluid, then using a lighter to set her on fire, has been indicted. Longview PD said the incident happened July 26. Officers arrested 36-year-old Cannon Ebarb at the scene. They say the victim's daughter called police at around 3 p.m. The victim was a 53-year-old woman who was left with burns to her face and body.
