Red Zone Game of the Week: Longview vs Lufkin

Red Zone Game of the Week: Longview vs Lufkin

Two East Texas cities that love their football, will meet for the 75th time Friday night.

"We're going to be a little nervous and amped up," said Longview quarterback Dezmond Chumley. "But we have to go in confident and take care of business."

The Longview and Lufkin all time series couldn't be any closer. In 74 all time meetings, The Lobos and Panthers each have 35 wins and 4 ties.

"Coming into Lufkin it's going to be a dog fight every game," said Longview running back JaMycal Hasty.  "Playing at Abe Martin, is a tough place to play."

Lufkin receiver KeKe Coutee says there's not a better rivalry in Texas.

"It's feisty and very intense," said Coutee. "It gets a little dirty sometimes because it's Lufkin and Longview."

The all time series may be even, but Longview holds current bragging rights. The Lobos have won the last 3 meetings. No current Panther player has ever beaten Longview.

"It would mean a lot for us to get this one last win," said Coutee.  "Our senior year, everybody wants to be Longview. It would mean a lot."

The Lobos senior class hopes to keep it's perfect record in place.

"We had success in the past so we have to build off of that," said Chumley. "Hopefully it will run into this year also."

Both teams know they will need to play their best to pull out a win Friday night.  Hasty says no lead is safe.

"Like Coach (King) says 'When you're playing Lufkin, you always have to be 2 touchdowns ahead.'"

"We know every game we play them every year it's going to be tough," said Lufkin offensive lineman Erik McCoy.  "If we don't bring our best, we're not going to win."
