Fire Destroys Karnack Home

A young Karnack couple is trying to put their lives back together after a Tuesday fire sends everything they worked for up in flames. The sad reality for Brian and Christy Griffin, is that a day after fire destroyed their home, they try to pick up the pieces, but in this case there are no pieces to pick up.

"All of our clothes, appliances, everythings gone, everything that you work for, and it's gone, it's tough," says Brian.

Investigators say electrical wiring probably caused the blaze that destroyed the 2 bedroom home around 2 pm Tuesday. Brian, a Waskom high school football and basketball coach, and Christy a legal assistant lost all the things they had become attached to in the ashes.

"All of our wedding pictures, and just, pictures that real big," says Christy.

They managed to save their dog "Nilla", but lost every piece of furniture, every stitch of clothing, every picture. But the Griffins are trying to find a glimmer of thankfulness in their loss.

"If it had been 12 hours earlier we would both have been sleeping, it would have been a lot worse, we've got each other so it'll be all right, we'll be o-k, just fine-- I hope," Brian says.

The community has set up a donation drive at Waskom schools. If you would like to help call the Waskom school district at 903-687-3361.
