Who's more nervous for first day of kindergarten?

The long march to the first day of school. The long march to the first day of school.
LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) -

The first day of school, ever: Some of us can recall the excitement, or trauma, or maybe you remember your kids first day more clearly.

At J.L. Everhart in Longview, we spoke with a few first-timers as they made their way to their home-away-from-home for the first time.

The sun peeking over the horizon is a pretty good indicator that you had better be on the road if you have a five-year-old, and J.L. Everhart in Longview is a kindergarten destination. Ashley Hager says her son Liam isn't the least bit afraid.

“I want to go to school,” Liam said.

“He'll be fine. He makes friend with everybody. He doesn't know a stranger,” Hager said.

Kimberly and Matt Yendell have four kids, and their daughter Levi is third to have a first day of school. “She's excited but scared also because she's never been to school,” Kimberly said.

Roshonda Pentecost brought her daughter Samyia. This is her second child to start kindergarten.“She's more excited than me, and I didn't think that was possible,” Pentecost said.

Liam and Samyia had a chat before heading to class, and Ashley had a little talk with Kimberly and Matt as their kids walked the hall.

Samyia and Liam both ended up in Kendall Tomberlain's class where they settled in with some coloring. They said their goodbyes.

“Was she upset at all?” I asked Roshonda.

“Not at all. I think she was rushing me off,” Roshonda replied.

“I think it went okay for now so we'll just see how I do when I get in the car and leave,” Ashley said.

Outside a few more first-timers trickled in like Chelsea Vetts and her daughter Carsey.

“She's really overwhelmed. She doesn't know how to act right now. She wants to make new friends she said,” Tomberlain revealed.

The family dog, Mini, apparently wanted to do the same since she hopped out of the car. Pictures were taken, and then announcements and the pledge, and that was the end of the beginning.
