LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) -

The Longview police radios that lost contact completely during a high speed chase from Longview to Tyler in June have been changed.

During the chase Longview police were pursuing a murder suspect, but when they entered into Smith County their radios stopped working, meaning they had no contact with dispatch or any other responding agencies.

Longview police said they did have the capability, but would have had to change their radio channel and none of the officers knew how to do that because the process was so complicated. This incident prompted the department to make changes.

On Monday, Longview police said the process has been simplified so that it takes just one step to switch the channel. This change will make it easier for Longview police officers to talk to other Longview police officers if they cross county lines, but talking to other agencies is still more difficult.
