DOGWOOD CITY, TX (KLTV) - An East Texas family is safe thanks to a dog after a fire destroyed their home.

Richard and Rebecca Cupp, along with their 12-year-old granddaughter, were awakened around 11:45 a.m. Monday after the dog jumped on the woman. Realizing their home was on fire, the family quickly exited the residence on Shady Trail, near Flint. Everyone got out of the house safely.

The couple said the dog was a gift from their son.

The fire started in the kitchen about 11:45 a.m. Noonday Volunteer Fire Department responded to the fire. Bullard and Flint-Gresham fire departments assisted.
