Construction to close one lane on Fourth Street in Longview; parking lots re-open

Traffic will be down to one lane in each direction on Fourth Street during an upcoming construction project in Longview.

Beginning Aug. 24, the city said a stretch of Fourth Street, between Hawkins to Loop 281, will be under construction for several days for street maintenance, milling and overlay work.

Overlay work will continue during the week of Aug. 31 from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Sunday through Wednesday in order to reduce traffic. Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes.

The city also said Friday that downtown parking lots on Cotton, Fredonia and Center streets are open.

The work included the reconstruction and asphalt paving of a parking lot at Fredonia and Cotton streets and an overlay of the parking lot at Center and Cotton streets. The projects cost the city $230,558 and city crews provided pavement milling, demolition and debris removal prior to the contractor's paving work.

For questions related to construction, contact City Engineer Alton Bradley at (903) 237-1067.
