TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

The Historic Aviation Memorial Museum hosted an award ceremony for one of its board members on Wednesday.

Louis "Lou" Thomas was presented the Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award for 50 years of accident free and safety flying.

"I really appreciate y'all coming today. I know y'all say it's my day but I'm thankful for the friends and family here today," Thomas said.

Thomas also offered advice to fellow pilots.

"If you're not up for flying don't fly. If something's not right you feel it and that's one thing I've always done. That's the best option," he said.

The award was presented by Joe Murphy from the Dallas FAA office.
