NOGALES, AZ (CBS5) -

One person was arrested and nearly 235 pounds of marijuana was seized after Border Patrol agents discovered a tunnel near a southern Arizona port.

The incomplete, cross-border tunnel was found on Aug. 7 by Nogales Station agents, who saw freshly disturbed dirt and rocks in the immediate area.

The tunnel was full of water when agents came across it about 100 yards west of the DeConcini Port of Entry.

It extended 42 feet into the U.S., measured 2 1/2'  wide by 3' tall and was equipped with electrical wiring and ventilation pipes.

During the sweep, agents found sugar sacks used to carry excess dirt out of the tunnel. They also located several tools.

On Wednesday, agents arrested one person attempting to smuggle 10 bundles of marijuana, worth an estimated $117,000, through the tunnel.

The drugs will be turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.

Transnational criminal organizations continue to construct tunnels for their smuggling operations in southern Arizona. Tucson Sector's Border Patrol continues to work closely with strategic partners in Mexico to detect tunnels during construction, and to prevent the movement of illegal contraband or persons across the border.

Customs and Border Protection welcomes assistance from the community. Citizens can report suspicious activity to the Border Patrol by calling 1-877-872-7435 toll free. All calls will be answered and remain anonymous.

Ghost stories and haunted houses have long been a popular past time, but just how much truth is there to the legends? "As Shakespeare said there are more things in heaven and earth then are in your books,” says Big Foot Expert Jeff Hurley. “There are things we don't understand." At the April 21, Paranormal Conference, experts in the subject came together to further explore their theories.
