TYLER, TX (KLTV) - An East Texas woman who was hit by a car while riding her bike south of Tyler is set to be released from the hospital Monday night according to friends.

The Texas Department of Public Safety said Janice Terry was riding her bike with a friend around 8 a.m. the morning of August 10 when a car struck her. She underwent surgery that same day for a broken back and had another surgery a few days later.

On Sunday, more than 150 bicyclists from across East Texas met in Tyler for a vigilance ride honoring Terry. Many of the nearly 200 who showed up did not her, but her story hit close to home for some.

Terry's friends tell KLTV that she will have a long road of physical therapy ahead of her, but she is expected to be okay.
