WINONA, TX (KLTV) -

The gas leak in Winona has been fixed, according to the police chief.

"Winona Utility workers are working as fast as they can to get to each residence and business to turn gas back on and check to see if gas pilots need to be lit," said Chief Bryan Richards in an email.

The city asked that residents and business owners contact Winona City Hall at 903-877-3381 if gas has not been turned on by 7 p.m. They explained that utility employees will not turn the gas back on if someone isn't home.

The gas leak began around 2 p.m. on Wednesday. Residents and businesses were evacuated around the 500 block of Highway 155 as a precaution.
