Tyler Junior College and East Texas Medical Center announced a partnership designed to strengthen the college's emergency medical services professional program, which provides certificates and associate degrees to graduates, as well as provide improved professional development opportunities for ETMC.

The academic and training program, which will go into effect in time for the fall semester, will be supervised by T.C. Howard, ETMC's EMS director of clinical educational services.

We're melding both an Academic environment and a field and clinical internship environment that will enhance our services, that will enhance care for patients in the East Texas region," said T.C> Howard, Department Chair Director of Clinical Services for ETMC EMS.

TJC President Dr. Mike Metke said the agreement will improve the college program by incorporating the use of an ambulance simulator to depict real life scenarios.

Officials say EMS students will be better trained and better prepared for the workforce.
