LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - Losing 15 starters, most teams would be in rebuilding mode. That's not the case in Longview.
"Our mindset is we don't rebuild," said running back JaMycal Hasty. "We reload."
With John King at the helm, the Lobos have averaged 12 wins a season the past decade.
"He doesn't have to say much," said offensive lineman Broderick Washington. "His presence is enough. His presence builds something deep inside. It build a fire in you."
Hasty, a Baylor commit, scored 13 touchdowns as a junior. One of the best running backs in the nation, Hasty says talented players come and go. King's system remains the same.
"Every year we're going to always get talent and great coaches to coach that talent," said Hasty. "When the two go hand in hand, good things turn out."
Dropping down from the new Class 6A, the Lobos are one of the state championship favorites in Class 5A.
"We played 4A football in 2008 and 09 and we came up one game short," said King. "So what we did then wasn't good enough. We're trying to find ways to make it good enough now."
The Lobos won't take any team lightly.
"Everybody is a potential threat and can beat us," said Washington. "We're going out every Friday night and playing like it's our last game."
