Miracle Child Chosen To Light Tree

A 1-year-old boy will light this year's Christmas tree in downtown Tyler.

Each year, a local child who has survived a life-threatening disease is chosen for the honor.

When Branden Young was 8 months old, a rash spread all over his body, sending him into shock. Branden spent 10 days on a heart-lung bypass machine and has undergone surgery to treat his once life-threatening infection. His mother says he's truly a miracle.

"He's just the sweetest boy," Sabrina Young said. "So he deserves anything. He was given a second chance for a reason, so he deserves everything that comes his way."

Branden will light the Christmas tree on Thursday at about 7 p.m., following the Christmas parade on The Square in downtown Tyler.
