EAST TEXAS (KLTV) - The board of directors of the Rockin' C Ranch Christian Camp announced their closing on their website.

According to their website, since they opened in 1997, the camp has been a retreat for thousands of campers, while employing hundreds of college and high school students as counselors, wranglers, and interns. The camp, located just south of Hawkins, drew campers from other states, and taught them skills like cutting trails, horsemanship, fence building, and other real-life ranch activities.

We reached out to the Clapps for comment, but are told they are out of town. An employee said that the camp was closing for "retirement and several other reasons," but could not comment further.

In a statement made on the camp's website, Matt and Janie Clapp, along with the Board of Directors for the camp said, "The selfless contributions of board members, sowers, full time staff, donors and especially the Clapp family have been invaluable in the operation of the non-profit Camp over the last 17 years. We want to express our deepest gratitude to all who have enabled the success of this Christian mission."
