East Texas community remembers football player killed in crash

(KLTV) -

An East Texas community is remembering a standout high school football player killed in a one-car crash.

16-year-old Adarian Parker died in a crash Friday afternoon on Highway 323, five miles southeast of New London. Parker was a talented and massive lineman at West Rusk, but he was a better friend to teammates who knew him.

"We were all very close friends. When we were conditioning, I know we're all big guys we hate running, but he would tell us to keep pushing, smiling, always smiling," says friend and teammate Corey Brister.

DPS troopers say Parker had lost control of his vehicle for some reason, ran off the roadway and crashed into a tree.

"You're just hoping maybe its a rumor, maybe its exaggerated maybe not sure, we got out there and realized that he had passed away," says Wesk Rusk head football coach John Frazier.

A teammate was in the car with Parker, but was unhurt. Almost the entire team was at the scene shortly after the accident.

"We saw his car up there and we ran up as close as we could, and there was a sheriff that stopped us and told us, the driver, which was Adarian was killed. We were all kind of in shock we didn't want to believe it. It's hard," Frazier says.

He dreamed of a bright future playing college and pro football.

"That's what his dad shared with me that had been his dream since fourth grade," says Frazier.

His loss was felt keenly by his fellow offensive linemen.

"He was more than our teammate, he was our brother," says teammate Alex Andrews.

Grief counseling is planned for students at West Rusk high school. Funeral services for Adarian Parker are pending.
