SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

The co-defendant in a deadly gang shooting took the stand Wednesday. In a Smith County district court, Rakheem Goldstein testified in the murder trial of Dennis Bendy.

Bendy, Goldstein, and another man are each charged with murder for last summer's shooting at P.T. Cole Park. That shooting killed 20-year old Briana Young, who was at the park with her 3-year-old child.

Two state witnesses recalled the events that occurred that day. First, Smith County prosecutors called Darrian Lee, a friend of young and eyewitness to the shootout.

“Let me just ask you this question right off the bat. Are you a gang member?” asked a prosecutor.

“Yes, sir,” replied Lee.

Lee told jurors Young asked him and fellow gang member Ke’Avier “KJ” Hurd to meet her at Tyler's P.T. Cole Park that evening.

Lee testified Hurd brought an unloaded gun because they feared an altercation with a rival gang. He testified he saw a white Hyundai Elantra circle the park two or three times before gunshots erupted from the park and the car.

Prosecutors also called co-defendant Rakheem Goldstein to the stand. Goldstein testified Bendy was “hysterical” because Hurd had attempted to shoot him earlier that day. He told jurors he and Bendy picked up firearms from a friend's house before switching cars with his girlfriend and heading to the park to find Hurd.
