An East Texas woman got a visit from some emergency personnel, but there was no emergency.

The Pink Heels fire truck made a surprise stop to a Longview woman who has survived breast cancer.

Since learning of the pink fire truck, Janet Russom's dream was to get to the sign the truck. The pink fire truck is a national non-profit organization that teams up with the local first responders to honor women fighting breast cancer. Janet signed the side of the truck. She gave a tribute to her mother who also fought the disease.

Janet's husband Allen has a huge respect for his wife, who has overcome many rounds of chemotherapy, radiation, lumpectomy and a double mastectomy.

“She didn't volunteer for this war. She was drafted into it. She fought it. The war is still raging, but she's a winner,” Allen Russom said.

Janet was moved with tears when the fireman walked up to hand her the pen to write on the truck. “It's a great feeling to know that there's people out there that care about you and what you are going through; it's just overwhelming,” she said.

Janet first learned she had cancer 19 years ago. She is now a two-time survivor.
