New principals chosen at Johnston-McQueen, Judson

From Longview ISD Community and Media Relations: Days after he was tapped to be Johnston-McQueen Elementary School’s next principal, a renowned education consultant has been chosen to take the helm at Judson Middle School. Johnston-McQueen, meanwhile will be led by a veteran teacher with her fair share of project leadership experience.

Superintendent Dr. James E. Wilcox on Friday named Denise Frederick and Dennis Mitchell as principals at Johnston-McQueen and Judson, respectively. The appointments are effective immediately, Wilcox said.

“We always try to make decisions that will best benefit our students,” Wilcox said. “Dennis was a great fit for Johnston-McQueen, but he’s also equipped to step in at Judson and keep it moving in the right direction.”

Wilcox said district leaders had been eyeing Frederick for a permanent leadership role and finalized their decision this week, after meeting with her several times.

“Denise is one of the best teachers at one of the most acclaimed elementary schools in Texas,” Wilcox said of Frederick’s 10 years at Hudson PEP. “She’s been involved in other efforts outside of the classroom – such as heading up our summer school program – and we’re really impressed with her.”

Aside from Mitchell’s few days at Johnston-McQueen, Frederick replaces Lisha Fluellen, who took over as assistant principal at Forest Park Middle School.

Mitchell succeeds Brian Kasper, who earlier this week was promoted to Career and Technology Director at Longview High School. Kasper had been Judson’s principal since 2003.
