Johnny Manziel improves at Browns scrimmage

TYLER, TX (KLTV) - The Browns held their first one of training camp today and as usual, Johnny Manziel's every move was well documented. The Tyler native, who played with the second team, struggled at first and even turned the wrong way on a hand off.

But as the scrimmage progressed, Manziel got more comfortable. 'Johnny Football' showed flashes of his athletic ability by scrambling for a pair of first downs. Manziel admits adapting to the speed of the game combined with learning a new playbook is challenging.

"That's really the story of my life right now is I have to get better, learn the stuff, and continue to get more and more familiar with every single play in our offense," Manziel said. "Days like today help."

Manziel added,"There are still so many different little things here and there that can throw a play and change a play and a defensive look. That's stuff I wasn't use to and now I'm seeing it, adjusting and learning. That's what I am doing is learning."

The Lufkin Panthers have not made it past the first round of the football playoffs since 2012. The team this year has a different feel to it and is hopeful that stat will be erased Friday night when they host Rockwall-Heath in the Bi-District Round of the 6A playoffs.
