CHEROKEE COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - According to New Summerfield Police Department, the body discovered on July 29, 2014 near Reklaw was that of Javier Jimenez.

Jimenez was positively identified by the Southwest Institute of Forensic Science in Dallas utilizing finger prints on file. The medical examiner listed the cause of death as Homicide due to Gunshot Wound.

According to the press release, Jimenez was previously reported missing by his wife after he did not return home after work as expected. We spoke with the family earlier this week and they were hopeful that the body was not Javier Jimenez.

On July 29, 2014, the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office and local police responded to a scene where a 2001 Ford pick-up was reported abandoned on a parcel of land in rural Cherokee County near Reklaw. A body was found in the bed of the truck.

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, the Cherokee County District Attorney’s Office and the Texas Rangers are continuing the investigation.
