Local Cheerleaders In Hollywood Christmas Parade

Some local cheerleaders are headed to the city of the stars. The theme of their dance is a tribute to the armed forces.

"It makes me real proud to be an American," Thornell Lewis, a 7th grade cheerleader, said.

"It reminds you that it's great to live in this country because not all countries have these kinds of privileges," Tara Boggaram, an 8th grade cheerleader, said.

This is only the second year the Moore Middle School cheerleaders and their mascot have gone to competition. But this year, the Mustangs won the overall championship at the Universal Cheerleader Association camp in Waco. That landed them a spot on the Hollywood Walk of Fame: not a star, but a 3-mile stretch to march in this year's Christmas parade.

"It's really exciting because this is my first chance going to Hollywood, and all the celebrities are there," Eliana Molina, an 8th grade cheerleader, said.

"I'm real excited," Myles Sloan, the mascot, said. "It's like a once-in-a-lifetime experience. And so I'm hoping I'll have a lot of fun."

This star-studded opportunity didn't come without many hours of practice before and after school.

"It was hard 'cause you had to wake up at 6 in the morning and you had to stretch," Molina said.

"To finally get this routine done and learn it feels really great," Boggaram said.

The Moore Mustangs will be marching with celebrities like Desperate Housewives' Eva Longoria and this year's grand marshal, Magic Johnson.

"I want to take a lot of pictures," Sloan, an 8th grader, said. "And I'm looking forward to Disneyland 'cause I've never flown on a plane and I've never been to California or anything like that."

Look out, Hollywood, here they come.

The Hollywood Christmas Parade will be broadcast live in East Texas this Sunday at 7 p.m. on satellite TV and cable superstation WGN.
