George Cumby takes over as Athletic Director at Bishop Gorman

TYLER, TX (KLTV) - After three seasons as the head football coach at Texas College, George Cumby is taking on a new job. Bishop T.K. Gorman Principal Jim Franz has confirmed to KLTV Sports that Cumby will be the schools new athletic director.

Cumby graduated from T.K. Gorman in 1975 before going on to play at the University of Oklahoma. The former linebacker was the head coach at his Alma Mater for one season in 2006-2007. Cumby, a first round draft pick by Green Bay, played for a total of eight seasons in the NFL with the Packers, Bills, and Eagles.

Before his time at Texas College from 2011-2014, Cumby was an assistant coach at Tyler Junior College for four years. As athletic director at T.K. Gorman, Cumby takes over for Jeff Smith who is now the A.D. of girls athletics at Trinity Christian Academy in Addison.

So that's why Saturday's Class 4A showdown between the number one Bulldogs and second ranked Buckeyes is sold out. Carthage, who won the Class 4A division I title last year, knocked off Gilmer 55 to 37, snapping the then Buckeyes 23 game regular season winning streak.
