HARRISON COUNTY (KLTV) - A Harrison County couple is behind bars Monday after they were arrested on various charges.

James Robert Arnold and Michael Stephanie Arnold are in the Harrison County jail. James Arnold is charged with Theft of Property and Possession of a Controlled Substance. Michael Stephanie Arnold is charged with Hindering Apprehension and Prosecution, and Tampering with Physical Evidence.

The Harrison County Sheriff's Department found that James Arnold was responsible for numerous thefts of heavy equipment. After an investigation, officials recovered a $90,000 backhoe, which the sheriff 's department says was stolen from a Harleton construction site on July 16. Other items recovered include a $10,000 gooseneck trailer that was used to haul the trailer, a $5,000 flatbed trailer, a $75,000 mini-track hoe, and three golf carts. The golf carts were found to have been stolen from a Longview business, and have a value of $24,000 total, according to officials.

When these items were recovered, authorities found that more thefts had been committed across Texas and Louisiana. In Lincoln Parish, Louisiana, police officers recovered a stolen trailer and called the owner in Van Zandt County, Texas. The trailer was returned to the Van Zandt County business owner. These investigators also called a business owner in Harrison County, and were able to match some of the recovered equipment to him, as well.

The stolen items were traced back to Arnold by an index finger print on a vehicle processed by Louisiana police. When they entered the print into the national fingerprint database, it returned the name James Arnold of Harrison County.

Louisiana officials contacted Harrison County investigators, and told them Arnold was also a suspect in a DeSoto Parish tractor-trailer theft. When investigators went to Arnold's home, they found two new trailers that matched the description of the two stolen in Louisiana, as well as a backhoe that was on one of the trailers.

It is believed that there are more items that have yet to be recovered that may be out of Harrison County by now, including two tractors and a mini-track hoe. Harrison County Public Information Officer Jay Webb says that the department is still determining other thefts involving James and Michael Arnold.

James Arnold, 47,  is being held on charges of Theft of Property and Possession of a Controlled Substance. He is being held on $65,000 bond, as well as a bond hold from DeSoto and Lincoln Parishes on Louisiana.

Michael Arnold, 35, is being held on charges of Hindering Apprehension and Prosecution, and tampering with Physical Evidence. Her bond has been set at $35,000.
