Cowboys try to handle day off on Monday

OXNARD, CA (KLTV) - Quarterback Tony Romo was involved in back to back contact practices for the for time in seven months. But Romo and the Cowboys will now get the day off on Monday at training camp in Oxnard, California.

Sports director Ryan Peterson is with the team at training camp and talked to players about how the day off effects the flow of camp after two straight days of full pads.

"I dont think it is, I mean its your job," cornerback Sterling Moore said. "You have to come out here and compete everyday and at a high level no matter what the circumstances are. "We could have a bye week and you have to bounce back the next week and play at the level you were before the bye week."

Safety Barry Church added, "It's all getting us prepared for the season. Last year we went at it a lot then had a couple days off here and there. A lot of people were injured or very tired so this couple days, then break, it helps our bodies out a little bit. I feel like we are a lot fresher as far as the game. People are getting coverages down, getting what they need to get down. We are looking a lot fresher."

The Cowboys may be fresher, but they are still without one of only two pro bowlers on defense. Anthony Spencer is still watching practice and has no time table on a return. "It's pretty tough," Spencer said.  "I went through it last year, so I dont want to say I'm used to it, but I'm doing what I can to get better and work on the things I can work on. As long as I keep doing that, I think I will be alright."
