Eustace High School: 8th grader dies in tragic swimming accident

HENDERSON COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

According to Eustace High School Yearbook's Facebook page, 15-year-old Erik Rhodes drowned Thursday in Henderson County.

The Facebook post read, "Eustace ISD lost a very loving and sweet individual today. Erik Rhodes sits with Jesus now. A loss greater than a single heart can bare. Everyone remember Erik and the times you've had with him. He was a great person and loved his sister Amanda Rhodes dearly."

The Henderson County Sheriff's Office says Rhodes jumped into Cedar Creek Lake from a second story dock, landed wrong, and injured himself. He was taken to ETMC in Gun Barrel City, then to ETMC in Tyler where he later died.  

A candlelight vigil will be held Saturday night at 6:00 p.m. in the Eustace High School parking lot. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Moorhead Epps Funeral Home in Gun Barrel City. Burial will follow at Moorehead Melton Cemetery in Eustace.
