LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) -

With the school year just around the corner, East Texas teachers are already starting their back-to-school shopping.

"I spend a lot of money every year on my classroom," said Lisa Rust, a 3rd grade teacher at an area school.

Rust says she's not the only one.

"Most teachers work in school districts that can't afford to buy anything for their students, and teachers have to spend a lot of their own money," said Rust.

Spring Hill librarian Becky Jones says she's found a solution. Its called donorschoose.org, a crowd funding website specifically for teachers.

Jones set up her account this week.

"They have to edit it and approve it, it goes through a process and then Monday they emailed me saying it had been accepting and they were going to post it," said Jones.

When you type in your zip code, you can see teachers fundraising near you.

The website is divided into subjects like, math, science and art.

Jones' theme: “Blast off with Books.”

She says many of the junior high students have shown an interest in science but last school year she found many of the library's books were outdated and she wanted to revamp their selection.

“I thought this will get more students into the library and on a topic that they are really interested in," Jones said.

Jones says she's been teaching for 20 years and says teachers will go above and beyond to ensure their students learn.

"I think its our nature to want to help and that's why we get into our profession; when you see a student needing something, it;s your nature to give to them," said Jones.

She believes the website doesn’t just help those who receive; it also benefits those who give.

"They can give what they love to the younger generation,” said Jones.

Jones tells us for the first week your page is up, donorschoose.org will match the first week earning.

Pages are only up for four months. She hopes to raise $431.
