The Facebook account for Little Rock Air Force Base posted: The base-wide lockdown has been lifted as of 4:10 p.m., and normal base operations have resumed.

The lockdown was enacted at approximately 11:45 a.m. in the interest of protecting all base members and resources from a reported suspicious individual.

"We responded with the necessary caution to secure our Airmen, their families and Air Force resources" Col. Patrick Rhatigan, 19th Airlift Wing commander, said. "After a thorough search of the base, we the found the report no longer credible. I am pleased with the response of our Security Forces and appreciate the support of the Jacksonville Police Department and other federal law enforcement officials. We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused, but security and safety is our top priority."

JACKSONVILLE, AR (AP) - Little Rock Air Force Base is on lockdown after reports of a suspicious individual.

Officials say the base in Jacksonville was locked down at 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, and emergency personnel are on the scene. Gates allowing access to the base have been closed, and officials say people should not go to the front gate.

A base spokeswoman declined to provide further details, only saying that the lockdown was prompted by a suspicious person. More details are expected to be released later Wednesday.

The base had been conducting emergency response exercises, but officials say Wednesday's incident was not part of the drill.

Jacksonville is about 15 miles northeast of Little Rock.
