LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) -

A memorial service in honor of Longview Chiropractor Dr. John Petty was held Saturday July 19 at First Baptist Church. Petty went missing Sunday while shark diving in the Bahamas.

After the service, a reception was held at the Longview Museum of Fine Arts for family and friends of Dr. Petty. The museum opened a new exhibit Saturday featuring East Texas regional artists. Dr. Petty was one of the six artists under contract to be featured in the exhibit, which has been dedicated to his memory. His medium was photography.

“Most of this is from Africa. He took a trip to Africa last summer with a friend. There’s a couple of Dallas skyscapes and then the rest of it is from his African trip. He’s a lovely man and we’re going to miss him,” said Renee Hawkins, Director of the Longview Museum of Fine Arts.

The exhibit will remain open through August 30.
