BROOKHAVEN, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

An animal rescue organization is now helping an animal who was seemingly the victim of horrible torture.

On Friday, the dog was found in Brookhaven with just three legs.

She was rescued and taken to the Brookhaven Animal Rescue League.

A veterinarian from that organization believes the dog's leg was intentionally sawed off.

Here's the story according to the GoFundMe page:

Amya was found on July 18, 2014 on a country road in Mississippi. At first it was thought that her leg was broken but it wasn't, it was missing from right below her knee. She was rushed to a local vet clinic after hours and it is believed someone cut her leg off a few weeks ago. Although the leg had started to heal we need to amputate the rest. She is so sweet and the family that found her will be fostering her after surgery until a home can be found through Brookhaven Animal Rescue League.

The dog was named Amya after the woman who found her.

The Rescue League's Education Coordinator told us the remainder of Amya's leg will have to be amputated.

She will then remain boarded with the vet while she heals and eventually be up for adoption.

The animal rescue league is seeking public help to raise money for Amya's recovery.

Please call Brookhaven Animal Rescue League at 601-757-1057 to learn more about how you can donate.
