Your Week in Viral Videos: A woman not to be messed with

(RNN) – American Ninja Warrior has been around since 2009, but it hasn’t gotten as much publicity in the preceding five years as it has in the last five days.

That’s all because of Kacy Catanzaro, a former gymnast, who became the first woman to qualify for the finals of the competition. She’s 5 feet tall, weighs 100 pounds and if you watch how she conquers this obstacle course, you’ll think twice before making short jokes at her expense.

Don’t worry about being unfamiliar with American Ninja Warrior, because it doesn’t matter. Just think of it as a combination of American Gladiators and Wipeout. Or just watch and not care what it’s like.

It’s hard to know what the standout moment from this video is because she’s impressive on each obstacle. The highlight probably comes on the final apparatus at the six-minute mark, but you can’t get a full appreciation for what she’s doing unless you watch the whole thing. It’s well worth the time.

Beer can barbecue

It’s summer, and you know what that means: It’s time to burn some meat. Preferably your meat is cooked properly with a nice caramelized char infused with a rich, smoky flavor on the outside yet still tender and juicy on the inside. (If you have mastered this, feel free to send recipes to the email link above or the Twitter account listed below. Party invitations will also be accepted.)

Barbecue grills, however, can be large, cumbersome and even a bit of a hassle, especially if you’re only cooking for one or two people.

Enter the Bitty-Q, a barbecue grill made from an aluminum can. The process is somewhat labor intensive but not necessarily hard, and appears to grill up one heck of a bratwurst. The heat will probably do a number on the integrity of the can, but it should hold up for at least a few sausages.

If you want hamburgers, however, you’re going to need to get the real thing.

When memes collide

One popular YouTube series sounded off another popular YouTube series. The panel of old people who decry all things modern took a turn at Epic Rap Battles of History and the results were, well, epic.

It kicks off with the George Washington-William Wallace showdown YWVV brought you two weeks ago, and goes downhill from there. A couple of months ago, the panel of teenagers discussed the same thing and the only similarities in their reactions was a reluctance to admit liking Adolf Hitler.

Wrong writing

Weird Al Yankovic has been winning the internet this week with a series of videos to promote his new album, Mandatory Fun.

He’s been releasing a video a day for a week since Monday, and the consensus seems to be the best one so far is a parody of Robin Thicke’s Blurred Lines called Word Crimes, which decries the lack of grammar prevalent, well, everywhere.

The video even prompted Yankovic to face a grammar question on Fox Business Channel. Watch the video, learn about English, and see if you can find the grammar faux pas in this section.

Animal of the Week

Awww, look at the sweet, little kitty. That’s a nice kitty. Here you go, kitty. Here’s a nice, big steak for you.

Who’s a nice kitty? OH GOD! Not you.

More stuff for when you’re bored

Your body trying to get rid of a tattoo is actually what makes it permanent.

The Dungan Revolt, Conquest of Timur, Taiping Rebellion and An Shi Rebellion may be wars the average person is unfamiliar with, but they rank alongside some of the more famous ones in terms of death toll.

The human brain is pretty remarkable and grows a lot faster than the human it controls.

Being in a wheelchair doesn’t make a dog stop wanting to play fetch.

Purrkour. (WARNING: Stolen word play.)
