TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

Earlier this week, thieves stole an air conditioner unit from a children's reading room here in East Texas.

Jenni Wilson, who runs the Ben Wheeler Library, says when she went to adjust the temperature on the kids' room air conditioner Tuesday morning, she noticed it was gone.

The library has been in the town for two years and gives children five free books each visit.

Right now, the library is only open two days a week, and they are borrowing an a/c unit from a local business until they are able to replace the one that was stolen.

"We don't want it to stay closed; people are counting on it to open for our reading contests and stuff like that. Anyway, we don't want to close it, so we have replaced it with one we borrowed for now," said Wilson.

The Ben Wheeler Arts and Historic District Foundation is working on projects around town, including paving a driveway for the children's reading room. Learn more and find out how to help out at BenWheelerTX.com.

Van Zandt County Sheriff's Officials say the library has two other air conditioners, but the one in the children's room was the only one that was taken. Call the sheriff's office at 903-567-4133 if you have any information about the theft of the air conditioner.
