EAST TEXAS (KLTV) -

A milestone in the fight to feed hungry senior citizens in East Texas came Wednesday morning as the East Texas Food Bank received a $20,000 donation from Bank of America.

Half of the donated funds will go to the Senior Servings program in East Texas, which feeds 250 seniors every week. The remainder of the funds will go to the food bank's other assistance programs.

The donation will create about 5,000 servings and last about five months based on feeding 250 seniors, according to East Texas Food Bank CEO Dennis Cullinane.

Gregg Davis of Merrill Lynch presented the $20,000 check to Cullinane and the food bank.

"Hunger is a growing pervasive issue in our community that disproportionately impacts seniors," Greg said.

The East Texas Food Bank serves 26 counties and provides more than 19 million meals per year.
