Gun-rights group challenges handgun law in Texas

Posted: Updated:

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - A gun rights group and a North Texas dealer are taking on a federal law that limits where people can buy handguns.

The Dallas Morning News reports (http://bit.ly/1zI771L ) that The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms on Tuesday filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Fort Worth. Included in the lawsuit is Arlington retailer Fredric Russell Mance Jr.

The lawsuit challenges the law that limits gun buyers to purchasing handguns only in the state where they live. Rifles and shotguns are treated differently under the law and can be purchased across state lines.

The law requires that buyers seeking a handgun from an out-of-state dealer pay for the gun to be transported to an in-state dealer.
