Sheriff: East Texas man arrested for feeding child meth

TITUS COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

Deputies have arrested an East Texas man after they say he forced a child to take methamphetamine, then assaulted his girlfriend.

Titus County sheriff deputies responded to an assault call in the 1400 block of County Road 1340 4:00 a.m. Sunday.

After investigating the scene, deputies say Trevor Ward, 26, assaulted his girlfriend at her home. Friends of the victim say they tried to intervene, but Ward began attacking them with a piece of lumber.

One person was transported to the Titus Regional Medical Center for injuries sustained in the assault. Deputies arrested Ward for assault by contact for the assault of his girlfriend. and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for the assault on the friend.

Deputies later found that prior to the assault, Ward had forced his way into the bedroom's of his girlfriend's children, ages 8 and 9.  Deputies say Ward forced one of the children to ingest methamphetamine. The child was transported to Titus Regional Medical Center where they tested positive for methamphetamine.

Titus County investigators and deputies obtained a search warrant for Ward's vehicle where they found scales with methamphetamine residue and other items consistent with methamphetamine use.

Ward was charged with injury to a child, endangering a child, and possession of a controlled substance. He is being held in the Titus County Jail.
