Suspect in custody after San Antonio standoff

Posted: Updated:

SAN ANTONIO (AP) - San Antonio police say an overnight standoff has ended with a wounded suspect in custody.

The incident ended early Monday with no officers hurt.

Sgt. Javier Salazar says police Sunday night responded to a call about an assault and encountered a man and a female victim outside a home. Salazar says the man pointed what appeared to be a handgun at officers and refused to drop it.

Officers fired and wounded the suspect, who retreated into the house. The woman stayed with officers.

Negotiators for several hours tried to get the man to surrender. He eventually left the home but didn't comply with commands so officers used a "less lethal weapon" to take him into custody.

The suspect was treated for a gunshot wound.

Further details weren't immediately released.
