MINEOLA, TX (KLTV) - Police have arrested a woman after a shooting at the Best Western hotel in Mineola early Saturday morning.

Police issued an arrest warrant for Shelby Elayne Adams, 18, of Mineola. The shooting happened around 2 a.m. on Saturday. People staying at the hotel say they were told a young woman was shot in the jaw after an argument.

Police say, after investigating, Adams picked up a handgun, pointed it at the victim, and it went off. Adams told police that she thought the gun was a taser.

Authorities at the Wood County Sheriff's Office confirm that the victim in the shooting is Amanda Soape, 27 of Quitman. Soape is currently being hospitalized at East Texas Medical Center in Tyler. Her injury was listed as non-life threatening.

The Mineola Police Department say two males stopped by the hotel room to visit Soape and Adams. One of the males had a small caliber handgun on his person. Initial reports how that one of the males was showing the gun to the females when it accidentally discharged causing it to strike Soape.

Adams was arrested at 3:40 p.m. Monday on an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon warrant. Bond was set at $50,000.
