East Texans shine at The Opening; Division II teams advance to Championship bracket at 7 on 7

TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Over 160 of the most elite high school football players from the entire country are in Oregon this week competing at The Opening, which is an invitation only camp.

A couple of East Texans are not only there, but have shined. Gilmer's Kris Boyd was named the defensive MVP for his team and Whitehouse star Justin Dunning was named defensive MVP for his squad. Dunning is a verbal commit to Texas A&M, and Boyd is currently uncommitted.

Meanwhile down in College Station, the 7 on 7 State Tournament is underway. The Division II teams have wrapped up pool play and several East Texas teams in Chapel Hill, Gilmer, Canton, and Crockett have punched their ticket to the championship bracket.

Division 1 pool play starts tomorrow where Tyler Lee, John Tyler, and Whitehouse will be in action.
