TYLER, TX (KLTV) - There are no pads and no hits, but plenty of touchdowns.
"You can say 7 on 7 is not the big show, but in reality its what we do right before two a days," said Whitehouse senior Tre Staples. "So it's getting us ready for the season. What we do here really matters."
Just weeks before the start of two a day practices, Whitehouse, John Tyler, Tyler Lee and Chapel Hill are airing it out. Hoping to win the 7 on 7 State Tournament.
"This is very serious," said Chapel Hill junior Konnor Hitchcock. "This is all the skill kids and skill positions. Once you have all that working together it's going to be great."
Lions, Wildcats, Bulldogs and Red Raiders will be rivals come August. This week it's all about representing East Texas.
"We're all out here competing right now," said Whitehouse junior Isiah Clark. "But once we get to College Station we want all of Texas to know that East Texas is where football is."
"I think any team coming from East Texas is capable of winning the whole thing," said John Tyler senior Geovari McCollister.
Confident they can win this week. It's all about preparation for a deep December run.
"If you do very well in the state tournament, that sets the tone to do well in the season," said Tyler Lee junior Mason Parker.
Canton, Crockett, Diboll, Gilmer and Sabine will also be making the trip to the 7 on 7 State Tournament. Games will be played July 10-12. All games will be played at the Veterans Park and Athletic Complex in College Station.
