A man from Henderson County died at a Dallas church Monday morning after he claimed he had been stabbed.

Dallas police tell KDFW they were called around 6 a.m. Monday to the Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship after an injured man drove there asking for help. The man, later identified as 44-year-old Linton Daniel Wilgus, reportedly became combative with church members who tried to help him. At one point, Wilgus reportedly lunged at one of the church members.

They called for help from police and Dallas Fire-Rescue, but Wilgus died before help arrived.

Records show Wilgus has connections to the Murchison area of Henderson County. Wilgus has had arrests on record in Cherokee, Henderson, Smith and Ward Counties.

The senior pastor of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship, Dr. Tony Evans, said Wilgus was not a member of their church.

Police towed an older-model Ford Mustang from the scene. Records showed it belonged to another Henderson County resident.

Police said Wilgus had puncture wounds to his neck. The Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office will determine how Wilgus died.
