Good afternoon! We hope you are doing well this week after a busy holiday weekend.

Here are some stories for your perusal:

1. Animal control officers and game wardens nabbed an alligator from a house in Longview after tips led them to the residence where the animal was being illegally kept by the resident. The gator is being held by game wardens and animal control until he can be released into the wild. We'll tell you more on East Texas News at 6.

2. A Kilgore man is in jail on Monday morning after he was arrested in connection with multiple vehicle burglaries over the weekend. Lechell Deke Scott was arrested and charged with burglary of a vehicle with two or more previous felony convictions; his bond has been set at $15,000.

3. The Texas Department of State Health Services has confirmed the state’s first human case of chikungunya, a viral disease that can cause fever and severe joint pain and is spread to people by mosquitoes.The patient recently returned to Texas from a trip to the Caribbean where chikungunya has been causing human disease since late 2013.

4. State officials plan to eliminate dozens of specialty license plates, such as ones for Texas Motor Speedway and Dr Pepper, because they've failed to generate enough interest. There will now be a requirement of 200 orders before new specialty plates will be authorized.

5. Three Israeli suspects in the killing of a Palestinian teenager who was abducted and burned to death last week confessed to the crime on Monday and were re-enacting the incident for authorities, an official said, as the country's leaders raced to contain a public uproar over the slaying.

6. A magnitude-6.9 earthquake on the Pacific Coast jolted a wide area of southern Mexico and Central America Monday, killing at least three people while damaging homes, hospitals and churches.
