HUGHES SPRINGS, TX (KLTV) -
Investigators suspect alcohol in an early morning crash that sent a car plowing through a businesses front door. Around 3 am Sunday morning, a driver ran his car into a building on Highway 11 in Hughes Springs.
Skid marks along Main Street show the trail a driver took before coming to rest inside Giovanni's italian restaurant.
"Driver was still on scene. We believe another individual may have been with him, but they were not here when we got here," says Hughes Springs police chief Randy Kennedy.
As the driver swerved and came across the road, he hit a dip in the shoulder and then hit a concrete walkway which actually vaulted the car through the door.
"We believe alcohol was involved. The individual apparently was traveling east on Highway 11, 49 or East First Street," Kennedy says.
Police say 34-year-old Corey Holloman of Hughes Springs crashed his 1997 Mercury into the front of Giovanni's. Holloman cooperated with police.
"He submitted a blood sample and we're going to be awaiting the results of that in a few weeks," says Kennedy.
The restaurant’s owner was not really concerned about the damage.
"I just hoped that nobody got hurt. It's clear that its an accident," said Sam Giovanni.
In spite of the damage, Giovanni's will be open for business after repairs. No one was injured.
Holloman is not currently in custody and is not charged with anything at this time. Investigators are waiting for the results of a toxicology test.
