Evidence of insects, employee hygiene violations found in Smith County restaurants

EAST TEXAS (KLTV) - Four East Texas restaurants get serious violations in the latest inspection period.

In  Tyler, China King at 4542 South Broadway had the following violations:
  • Cold foods held too warm.
  • Hygienic violations among employees.
  • Cross-Contamination of Raw/Cooked Foods.
  • Toxic Items Properly Labeled/Stored.
  • Food Contact Surfaces needed Cleaning.

Total demerits: 23 


In Smith County, Purple Pig Café at 19785 Highway 155 reported:
  • Hygienic violations among employees.
  • Evidence of Insect Contamination.
  • Food Contact Surfaces needed cleaning.
Total demerits: 17

In Tyler, when inspectors visited Chicken Express at 1270 South Southwest Loop 323, they saw:
  • Hot foods were held too cold.
  • Hygienic violations among employees.
  • Toxic Items were improperly Labeled and Stored.
Total demerits: 15

And at Rudy's Bar-B-Q and Country Store at 1410 South Southwest Loop 323 in Tyler:

  • Hot foods were held to warm.
  • Hygienic violations among employees. 
  • Improper hand wash Facilities found.
Total demerits: 15

    The Longview Police Department has stated that both north and southbound lanes of West Loop 281 is closed. The road is closed from Cotton to Enterprise has been closed due to an accident.
